Diversity and Family Support

The KFG seeks to foster an academic environment that is inclusive and supportive. Researchers who come to Munich with family members may face challenges pertaining to childcare, housing, or work-life balance. Through our family-oriented and financial support measures, our aim is to ensure that scholars can participate in research-related activities regardless of their family situation or personal circumstances.
At LMU, a wide range of services exists to support diversity, inclusion and to help researchers reconcile academic work with family responsibilities. For more information, please visit the LMU Diversity Management and Family Service pages.

Childcare Support

We aim to facilitate participation in our research activities for researchers with children. Support for childcare arrangements may be provided for fellows of the KFG and any participants in the Center’s events such as conferences or workshops held at LMU. In addition, both the LMU Family Service and the LMU Gateway offer individual consultations in English and German to assist fellows with organizing childcare during their stay in Munich.

Financial Support

The KFG may provide additional financial support should a visiting fellow be traveling with at least one family member with whom they will maintain a household during their stay in Munich. The monthly fellowship stipend may be increased.
Support may also be granted in cases where special housing requirements arise due to health-related circumstances, such as disability, advanced age, or special accessibility needs for the fellow or accompanying family members. The monthly rent subsidy may also be increased.
