Angelika Nußberger Awarded the Romano-Guardini Prize

The KFG congratulates its Distinguished Fellow

07.08.2024

We are delighted to announce that our Distinguished Fellow, Angelika Nußberger, has been awarded the prestigious Romano-Guardini Prize by the Catholic Academy in Bavaria. This award honors her significant contributions to strengthening international law both in theory and practice.
Named after the religious philosopher Romano Guardini, the Romano-Guardini Prize has recognized outstanding individuals since 1970, including physicist Werner Heisenberg and former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker. Angelika Nußberger is notably only the third women to receive this honor.

Angelika Nußberger is a professor at the University of Cologne, where she leads the Institute for Eastern European Law and Comparative Law. From 2011 to 2019, she served as a judge at the European Court of Human Rights, eventually becoming its Vice-President in 2017.

Currently, Nußberger directs the KFG cooperation partner, the Academy for European Human Rights Protection at the University of Cologne, with which the KFG is organizing the conference “Memory Rights and Wrongs”. Her research with the KFG conceptualizes the "alienation" between the way protections for human rights have evolved in Western Europe and contrasting developments in Central and Eastern Europe.

We congratulate Angelika Nußberger on this well-deserved recognition and are honored to have her as a Distinguished Fellow at the KFG.
