Statement on the recent investigation of Prof. Dr. Viacheslav Morozov
18.01.2024
We were shocked to hear the news that Viacheslav Morozov, who was a Fellow at the KFG "Universalism and Particularism in European Contemporary History" from October to December 2023, has been arrested in Estonia on suspicion of espionage for Russia. We would like to thank the University of Tartu, where Morozov had been Professor of International Relations since 2016, for informing us immediately about the allegations and the arrest. Viacheslav Morozov contributed his broad expertise to the discussions at the KFG and was a valued colleague here. The Republic of Estonia is a constitutional republic in which the presumption of innocence naturally applies. We trust that the allegations against Viacheslav Morozov will be carefully examined in a fair investigation.
